Instructions for Authors

These instructions are for authors of long and short papers submitted to the ACL-08 main conference. Except for page limits, the instructions apply also to student papers, doctoral consortium papers, demonstration papers, and workshop papers. Please consult the appropriate webpage for more information about these submission categories.

Anonymous Submission

As reviewing will be blind, the paper should not include the authors' names and affiliations. Furthermore, self-references that reveal the author's identity, e.g., "We previously showed (Smith, 1991) ...", should be avoided. Instead, use citations such as "Smith previously showed (Smith, 1991) ...". (Do not use anonymous citations.) Do not include acknowledgments. Papers that do not conform to these requirements will be rejected without review.

Formatting Guidelines

All submissions must be electronic in PDF and must follow the two-column format of ACL proceedings. Authors are strongly recommended to use the style files provided here. It is very important to specify US Letter format. The maximum length of a manuscript is eight (8) pages of content and one (1) additional page of references for long papers, four (4) pages for short papers. The page limits have to be strictly observed. All camera-ready manuscripts should look like the sample PDF file below, which also contains detailed formatting requirements.

These files were revised slightly as of March 5, 2008; please download the latest version.
